On Our Radar — Misrepresented

Updated: Nov 24

At Interlude we’re always paying attention to the creators shaping the culture with heart, intention and originality. Our new series On Our Radar is where we spotlight up and coming artists and established entrepreneurs building something fresh and unapologetically themselves. First up, everybody meet Tyree- the mind behind Misrepresented, a luxury-meets-streetwear fashion brand redefining comfort and confidence.

FASHION AS A LIFESTYLE

How would you describe your work and creative style?

T: "My work draws a lot of inspiration from the streetwear community. I strive to release luxury style pieces whether that be with the look, the quality, or the fit. I want you to be super comfortable but still be able to wear it in the tunnel on game day with all the cameras flashing"

How did you first get into your current creative practice?

T: "I’ve always loved fashion. Probably since I was a newborn. Fashion was always big in my family. I was 12 when I did my first 10 hour camp out for a pair of shoes with my mom. Since elementary school my friends have called me Fly Guy Ty. I became a stylist because I just absolutely loved getting people right. Built a lot of connections and now I can pretty much get my hands on everything for clients. It was honestly just a random day I went out and bought an iPad, downloaded Canva and procreate, watched A LOT of tutorial videos and just started cooking my own stuff knowing that I have such a big community around me."

INFLUENCES & CREATIVE FUEL

What themes, mediums, or inspirations show up most in your work?

T: "I like reinterpreting familiar visuals- like patterns, streetwear silhouettes, or nostalgic colour palettes- and turning them into something new. A lot of my inspiration comes from tunnel fits and artists. "

What does creativity mean to you right now?

T: "For me, creativity right now is about energy — taking what I see around me, the culture, the rhythm of real life, and flipping it into something original. Creativity helps me challenge myself to see things differently. It’s really about being able to put what’s going on in my head on clothes and using that to connect with others and build a MISREPRESENTED community."

COLLABORATION & COLLECTIVE POWER

What does collaboration mean to you?

T: "Collaboration is everything. Simple. I think without collaboration I have nothing. This brand doesn’t make it anywhere without it. It comes in different forms for sure. With it you get a chance to work with like minded creatives who you get to bounce ideas off and learn from. I love that no matter who you’re working with, whether that be a designer, stylist, photographer, or model, you get to see the process of seeing how someone else’s vision can elevate my own. "

What values or communities do you align with in your creative practice?

T: "Everyone can wear my stuff. Simple. No matter what size you are, no matter the height, what you identify as, you can be apart of the MISREPRESENTED community. I grew up not being able to go into certain stores because I just knew they wouldn’t have my size. That’s the last thing I want and I want EVERYONE to be able to wear Misrepresented."

Why are collectives like Interlude important right now?

T: "This is an easy one for real. Anybody that can have a space that can bring other creatives together in any way is winning. Simple. Y'all are doing it right. Bringing this community together is what we need. We should never be in competition. There’s definitely a reason I met Shayla at a wedding. I love to see what her and the team at Interlude are doing and fast. A lot of creatives struggle with finding studios, photographers, designers for their brand etc. Interlude, you get the best of it all without having to branch out to too many people. I love it. I’m gonna be in Seattle every month."

FUTURE VISIONS

If you could collaborate with any artist or brand, who would it be and why?

T: "Honestly this is a tough question. I’ve collated with a couple of artists, athletes, and influencers and I love working with them always. My answer would definitely be Gunna. I’ve always loved his fashion sense, the way he puts fits together, and how versatile he is. He can turn a plain tee into a million dollar looking fit. I think being able to even just have a sit down with him to pick his brain about how he brings his fashion together would be like getting a golden ticket."

How can people support your work?

T: "You’re already doing it. Featuring me as one of the first “On Our Radar” creatives means the world. Any way to get MISREPRESENTED out there to different communities is already a win in my eyes. But here’s the link still lol. https://www.misrepresented.ca/"

What are you currently working on that you're excited about?

T: I’m obsessed with Fall/Winter drop season. It’s where Misrepresented really shines. We’ve got an insane end-of-year run planned—maybe even a Cetadora x Misrepresented moment 👀

Any upcoming events, drops, or releases that you'd like us to share?

T: "Yes! We’ve got mid–late November and mid–December drops planned. Stay tuned."

Are you open to future Interlude collabs?

Always open. I never like to gatekeep. I’ll give my manufacturer to the right person who is for the culture and the community. I love collabing with like minded people.

Where can people connect with you?

T: "📲 @misrepresented.ca on IG. Our DMs are always open and we’d love to chat."
